This position is half of a two man crew that installs concrete landscape curbing, primarily in residential yards to form a border between grass and rock or mulch. Duties include pickup of Portland concrete bags, sand, water, and color powders at the Cemex Plant in Cocoa, transportation to job sites throughout Brevard County, mixing contents and depositing same in wheel barrels for movement to an extruding machine for installation. Once the extruder lays the concrete it must be troweled and cleaned of excess waste cement.
Preparation of sites may include layout of proposed concrete border via use of marking paint and/or string line, removal of any existing borders (plastic, wood, decorative blocks, or old curbing), removal of all surface vegetation in the path of the proposed curb, and any necessary trimming of shrubs away from the proposed new curbing.
This position requires a valid driver's license with a good driving record, enough strength to handle 94lb. bags of cement and the ability to operate the mixer and the extruding machine. Most work is performed Monday through Friday, with the occasional Saturday required due to weather delays encountered during the work week.
